David Silva returns to play: signs for Suprem Sha Tin after three-year retirement

David Silva, the 40-year-old Spanish midfielder, has decided to end his retirement and return to professional football, the development was announced on 07.10.2026.

Silva has signed with Hong Kong club Suprem Sha Tin, which competes in the top flight in Hong Kong. The club confirmed that the Spaniard will arrive soon and begin training to regain match fitness.

From Premier League titles to a new challenge in Asia

The former Manchester City, Valencia and Real Sociedad player had retired in July 2023 at the age of 37 after a serious injury to his anterior cruciate ligament. During his club career he won four English league titles with Manchester City.

With the Spain national team Silva earned a World Cup winners medal and two European Championship titles. He made 125 appearances for Spain and scored 35 goals.

Three years after his official retirement, Silva will now have the opportunity to return to the pitch and continue his playing career in Hong Kong.
