Declan Rice is close to agreeing a new long-term contract with Arsenal, with negotiations described as being at an advanced stage.

The 27-year-old midfielder currently has a deal that runs until the end of the next season. The club and player are discussing terms for an extension that would lengthen his stay in north London.

Under the proposed agreement, Rice's salary would be raised to match that of Bukayo Saka, with Saka's pay widely estimated at about A3350,000 per week, putting Rice among the highest earners at the club.

Rice is reported to be earning roughly A3240,000 per week at present, meaning the new contract would represent a significant pay rise.

Arsenal view Rice as one of Mikel Arteta's key first-team players and are prepared to reward his importance to the squad with improved terms.

Club officials aim to conclude the talks promptly to secure Rice on long-term terms amid ongoing squad planning.
