Power cuts in parts of Crimea — Massandra residents queue for hot meals outdoors
Following Ukrainian strikes, local officials say roughly 200 hot meals a day are being distributed in Massandra after power cuts.
Parts of Crimea were left without electricity after Ukrainian strikes, and residents of the seaside town of Massandra have been queuing outdoors for hot meals, local officials say.
Head of the Massandra city administration Oksana Madzhud said that about 200 hot meals are provided each day; the menu includes buckwheat with heated canned beef.
Power cuts and improvised cooking
The outages, reported across several towns on the peninsula Russia annexed in 2014, have affected people who cannot cook at home. Municipal teams have set up street kitchens where food is prepared and handed out to residents.
The situation in parts of Crimea has drawn online attention: a social media post pointed out that the Kremlin had long proclaimed Crimea "forever Russian," while in 2026 courtyard kitchens are being built so people in more than 1,500 apartment blocks can boil water and cook.
In a separate development, in a Russian strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv at least nine people were killed, while 28 were injured, including four children.
