Protesters in New York throw eggs at Edi Rama during UN General Assembly; he vows "They will not stop me"

Videos circulating on social media show several people throwing eggs at Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama while shouting insults such as "mafioso" and "criminal." The incident occurred in New York as Rama attended a session of the United Nations General Assembly.

At the time of the confrontation, Rama was accompanied by his wife, Linda Rama, and Taulant Bala, head of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party.

Rama's response on X

Reacting to the episode on the social network X, Rama wrote that those who wrap themselves in the national flag and run hysterically through the streets will not stop his work. He added:

"To those who cover themselves with the national flag and run hysterically through the streets, I say only that I have raised that flag higher than ever before in the eyes of the world. And to those who think they will stop me with mud and eggs in my mission to take our flag to the top of a united Europe, I say that if for the first time in the history of the Albanian state we have an institutional system that shows the ability for self-purification, then that is a great achievement that did not fall from the sky, but came precisely as one of the historic results of this mission."

Rama also wrote that Albania is a country valued by the European Union and the United States because of its fight against corruption.
