Deni Iliev set to join Azerbaijan’s Sumgayit
31-year-old North Macedonia goalkeeper Deni Iliev has reportedly agreed terms with Azerbaijan’s Sumgayit; announcement expected in the coming days.

Published 26.08.2026 8:00 — Deni Iliev, the 31-year-old goalkeeper for the North Macedonia national team, is on the verge of a move to Azerbaijan with Sumgayit. Reports say Iliev has already reached an agreement with the Azerbaijani side.
Transfer pending completion of formalities
According to the available information, the contract is expected to be made public in the coming days after remaining formalities in the negotiations are finalised. Until that announcement is published, details such as contract length and financial terms remain unconfirmed.
Iliev arrives with recent experience from Romania: in the last two seasons he represented UTA Arad and Rapid (B). His time in Romania provided regular club minutes and maintained his visibility for national team selection.
At 31, the goalkeeper brings international experience with the North Macedonia squad and a professional background in several foreign leagues. Sumgayit are set to bolster their squad options in goal with his arrival, should the deal be completed and announced.
The move, if finalised, will mark Iliev's next step after his spell in Romanian football and continue his career abroad while remaining available for national team duties.
