Deportivo Municipal unveil kit featuring 1,000 sponsors

Deportivo Municipal from Lima has introduced a striking new match shirt that carries the names and logos of 1,000 different sponsors, the club announced as part of a fundraising push to stabilise its finances.

Pixel-style design turned into a crowdfunding platform

The kit uses a pixelated grid made up of 1,000 small black-and-white squares, with each square allocated as advertising space for a local business in the Lima area. The club said the idea was born after it lost its main sponsor and needed an alternative way to bring in revenue.

Deportivo Municipal, one of Peru's most historic clubs and a four-time national champion, now competes in the country's third division. Facing financial difficulties, the team opened the pixel grid to many small vendors and community companies as a collective sponsorship model.

According to the club, the campaign raised 254,000 Peruvian soles (65,142 euros), money the team says will help cover immediate needs and keep operations running while it seeks longer-term commercial partners.

The project has drawn attention for its creative approach to crowdfunding at club level, turning the playing shirt into a visible platform for hundreds of local businesses while giving Deportivo Municipal a short-term financial lifeline.

Club officials said they will assess the initiative's next steps, including whether a similar model could be used again or adapted for other revenue streams.
