Russian airstrike kills at least 27 near Kyiv as Ukraine strikes back

At least 27 people were killed overnight in a Russian airstrike on the Kyiv region, Ukrainian authorities said, as the air campaign between Russia and Ukraine continued at high intensity.

Timur Tkachenko, governor of Kyiv Oblast, reported via Telegram that 42 people were injured and that more casualties could be confirmed as rescue operations continue. More than 380 residents from the affected area around Bucha were evacuated to safety.

Damage concentrated around a village depot

The strike hit the village of Mila, where emergency teams counted damage to at least 50 structures and a fire that spread to houses and a restaurant. Officials say the apparent target was a munitions depot located inside a populated area; multiple explosions were recorded and criminal investigations have been opened.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported significant infrastructure damage. "Residential buildings have been damaged, as well as a home for the elderly and people with disabilities," he wrote on Telegram. This attack is part of the third consecutive day of a new Russian wave offensive in the wider Kyiv region.

Russian strikes were also reported in southern Ukraine. In Odesa region at least one person was killed and three others injured, and several grain transporters were set ablaze, authorities said.

Ukraine said it carried out counterattacks on Russian territory and the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Officials reported that at least four people died in attacks involving Ukrainian drones. Local Russian authorities said three people were killed and nine injured in the border region of Belgorod. Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol, said one person was killed and three others injured in a drone strike on Sevastopol.

Russian media reported further incidents in Russia’s south: in Rostov Oblast at least seven people were wounded in air raids and two children were taken to hospital, according to the TASS news agency. Russia has been at war with Ukraine for four and a half years.
