Real Madrid considers Didier Deschamps if Jose Mourinho is sacked
Didier Deschamps, out of management since summer 2026, is being linked to Real Madrid if Jose Mourinho is sacked.

Real Madrid are reportedly weighing a managerial change after a disappointing start to the season, with Didier Deschamps suggested as a possible successor if Jose Mourinho is dismissed.
Journalist Sergio Valentin posted on social media that club leaders have identified Deschamps, currently unattached, among potential candidates to replace Mourinho. The Portuguese coach returned to Real Madrid this summer, but his position is said to be fragile amid underwhelming performances.
Deschamps' credentials and current status
Deschamps, 58, has been out of coaching since stepping down as France manager in summer 2026. His record includes winning the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 Nations League, and taking Les Bleus to the finals at Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup.
Real Madrid sit third in La Liga with 21 points from nine matches. The club face RB Leipzig at home in the third round of the Champions League on 21 October — a fixture that could intensify scrutiny of the manager's future.
According to the report, the club's hierarchy is unhappy with the team's lack of a distinctive playing style and inconsistent displays, even though the players are said to back their coach. Real have not yet taken concrete steps to remove Mourinho nor opened formal talks with Deschamps.
Any decision on Mourinho's future will likely depend on immediate results in both domestic competition and Europe, and on internal discussions among club executives in the coming days.
