The foreign exchange reserves of the Republic of North Macedonia amounted to €5,011 million at the end of July 2026, marking a monthly increase of €74.4 million, the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia said.
Reserve composition
The majority of the reserves are invested in securities, which account for 71.1% of the total. Monetary gold represents 15.6%, while currencies and deposits make up 13.2%.
Central bank foreign reserves serve as a financial buffer to cover external obligations and to support monetary and exchange rate stability. Changes in the level and composition of reserves reflect the bank's ongoing asset management and liquidity decisions.
The National Bank releases monthly figures on foreign reserves as part of its regular statistical reporting. The July numbers show a continuation of the bank's preference for securities as the principal instrument within the reserve portfolio.
Analysts and market participants monitor these figures for signals about liquidity conditions and the central bank's approach to risk and diversification, particularly the share allocated to gold and to more liquid instruments such as deposits.
