Six-year-old falls from third floor in Neukölln — passerby catches her

A six-year-old girl fell from a third-floor window in Neukölln, Berlin, but was caught mid-air by a passerby and survived with only minor injuries.

Quick thinking prevented a tragedy

The incident took place at a shelter for refugees and homeless people on Langstraße in the Neukölln district. According to witnesses, a 34-year-old man heard shouting and looked up to see the child standing at an open window on the third floor.

Without hesitating, the man moved to the street directly beneath the window. Moments later the girl lost her balance and fell; the passerby managed to catch her in mid-air before she hit the pavement.

Emergency services arrived immediately. The child was transported by ambulance to hospital for observation and remained under medical supervision with only minor injuries. A rescue helicopter was called but returned to base after crews determined she was conscious and stable.

When police entered the room from which the girl fell, they found two younger children — aged 2 and 5 — alone and unsupervised. The parents were not at the flat at the time; witnesses said they had gone to a shop and only returned while police were still on the scene.

The police opened an investigation into the mother on suspicion of endangering the children and failing in supervisory duties. Officers at the scene personally thanked the rescuer, calling him the "Hero of Neukölln." The 34-year-old, identified as Erdsin U., said he was simply glad to have been in the right place at the right time.
