Macedonia returns from Taranto with six Mediterranean Games medals

September 10, 2026 — After a successful run at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, the Macedonian delegation returned home and was formally received today at the Macedonian Olympic Committee by its president, Daniel Dimevski.

Official welcome at the Macedonian Olympic Committee

Macedonia comes back from the event with six medals: one gold, two silver and three bronze. The haul matches the total number of medals the country earned at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 2018, when Macedonian athletes took two golds, one silver and three bronzes.

At the reception, Dimevski described the delegation's showing as an outstanding success and stressed that the medals reflect the quality and commitment of the athletes.

“Six medals from the Mediterranean Games are a result we should be proud of. These awards were won through enormous effort by the athletes, their coaches and federations, and are a joy for the entire Macedonian public. The Macedonian Olympic Committee provided all the conditions at these Mediterranean Games, and the athletes repaid us with the medals they brought. Their performance represents confirmation that Macedonia has athletes who can fight for top placements at major international competitions,” Dimevski said.

The reception was ceremonial and aimed to honour the athletes, their coaches and the federations for the work invested in preparation. Officials highlighted that the result demonstrates Macedonia's ability to compete for high rankings on the international stage.
