Jeff Cronenweth to receive Golden Camera 300 at 47th Manaki Brothers festival
The American cinematographer will be honored at the 47th IFFK 'Manaki Brothers' in Bitola, 19–25 September.
American cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth — noted for his work on thrillers and his collaborations with director David Fincher, including Fight Club, The Social Network, Gone Girl and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo — will receive the Golden Camera 300 award for outstanding contribution to world cinematography.
The prize will be presented at the opening of the 47th Manaki Brothers International Cinematographers' Film Festival (IFFK), which runs from 19 to 25 September in Bitola, festival organizers announced.
Program highlights and local premieres
"A man known for skillfully using light, but even more known for using darkness — in other words, shadows. A man who will bring the atmosphere of the thriller to Bitola," said Dimitrija Dokshevski, director of the IFFK "Manaki Brothers."
The festival will both open and close with films co-produced by North Macedonia; both works will have domestic premieres in Bitola after appearances and prizes at international festivals. The opening film is Skating Is Not for Girls, directed by Dina Duma with cinematography by Frederik Noarom. The closing film is the debut feature by Srđan Janićijević, You Won't Believe What Happened Before, shot by cinematographer Dejan Dimevski, festival selector Slađan Penev said.
These two titles are part of a main program made up of 12 films. Among them is Visar Morina's Shame and Money. The documentary strand features 10 films from the region, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America — a selection intended to showcase diversity of visual expression in documentary filmmaking, selector Kumijana Novakova said.
The short film program includes 15 entries, among them Nikola, Nikola by Leon Ristov and Samir Ljuma. The student section screens 14 films; one example is The Lake by Sofia Hristovska. Panels and masterclasses with prominent cinematographers from around the world will run during the festival.
To encourage youth attendance, student and high-school tickets will be sold at a 50% discount.
