Dominik Szoboszlai: I would gladly accept being Liverpool captain

On 17 September 2026 Dominik Szoboszlai openly said he aspires to wear the armband for Liverpool one day, describing the role as the highest honour at the club.

"It is a huge honour to become captain of Liverpool. I would gladly accept that role," Szoboszlai said, confirming his long-term ambition in comments this week.

From vice-captain to potential skipper

The 25-year-old Hungarian is currently one of Liverpool's vice-captains alongside Alisson and Joe Gomez, while Virgil van Dijk remains the club's first captain.

Szoboszlai has recently earned public praise from Van Dijk for his leadership qualities — praise the midfielder says carries special weight coming from the captain.

Szoboszlai signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in July that runs until 2031 and has been with the club since 2023, putting him in a position to challenge for a permanent leadership role in the coming seasons.
