Luka Dončić scores 40 as Lakers beat Kings 116:103

Los Angeles Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 116:103 on November 5, 2026, registering their seventh victory in nine games this season while Luka Dončić delivered another huge scoring night.

Dončić finished with 40 points, shooting 6/13 from three-point range and 12/13 from the free-throw line. He also collected nine rebounds and handed out seven assists — part of a streak that has seen him score more than 35 points in eight games so far this campaign.

Statistically Dončić has joined rare company. He is the first player after Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain to record more than 300 points in the first eight games of a season. Chamberlain’s 1962/63 start remains the outlier — he scored 418 points in those opening eight games.

Sideline incident with a fan

The game also featured a sideline episode late in the third quarter. Dončić signalled to referee Chelsea Painter after a fan aggressively threw a ball in the official’s direction; the referee did not initially see the action. Dončić then approached the spectator sitting by the baseline and spoke to him, and the fan was removed from the arena by security shortly afterward.

Aside from Dončić, Austin Reaves led other contributors with 21 points while Walker Kessler added 15. The win continues a blistering start for the Lakers as they try to maintain momentum early in the season.

On social media one post summed up the performance: "LUKA DONCIC IS PLAYING OUT OF HIS MIND. 🔥"

The Lakers now look ahead to their next games hoping Dončić can sustain this level of scoring as the season progresses.
