Attempted shooting at café in Elbasan fails after pistol jams
52‑year‑old arrested after allegedly aiming a pistol at a café patron’s head in Elbasan; the gun jammed and the victim escaped.

An armed man on Saturday attempted to shoot a 50-year-old customer in the head at a café in Elbasan, Albania, but the handgun jammed and the victim managed to escape, authorities said.
Video from the café’s security cameras shows 50-year-old Ermir Kertezi, wearing a black T‑shirt, first inside the venue and then stepping into the outdoor seating area where he stood for several seconds.
Fifty-two-year-old suspect Poli Borici, who had been sitting in the café with his wife, rose, drew a pistol and pointed it at Kertezi’s head. The weapon failed to fire.
Immediate reaction and arrest
Kertezi pushed the attacker and fled. Borici chased him a few metres but then abandoned the pursuit and ran from the scene. Police located and arrested Borici shortly afterwards and seized the pistol believed to have been used in the attempt.
During questioning, Borici allegedly told investigators: "I did it to avenge my brother, whom he wounded 15 years ago." Borici said the earlier wound left his brother with severe health consequences and ultimately paralyzed him.
Kertezi gave a different account, saying relations between the two families had long been normalized and that they had not had conflicts in the last 15 years; the families even lived next to each other. The investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances of the attack.
