Drone fell on Romanian territory near Plauru during Russian strikes on Ukraine
Romanian authorities say an unidentified aircraft presumed to be a drone fell near Plauru on 2 October; no casualties reported.

A previously unidentified aircraft, believed to be a drone, fell on Romanian soil in the early hours of 2 October 2026, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence said. The incident occurred near the village of Plauru in Tulcea County at about 05:00 while Russian air strikes targeted civilian sites and infrastructure in Ukraine.
Fire, emergency teams on site
The fall sparked a fire at the impact site. Specialized crews from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of Romania were dispatched immediately to extinguish the blaze and to carry out remedial work on any damage caused by the incident.
Authorities reported that, at this time, there have been no casualties and no material damage has been officially recorded.
Despite the timing of the accident during the Russian strikes on Ukraine, the Ministry emphasised that Romanian airspace has not been breached. Officials said no violations of Romania’s airspace were registered in connection with the event.
The ministry’s initial statement did not identify the origin of the unmanned aircraft or provide further technical details about the device. Investigations and on-site operations were ongoing following the early-morning incident.
Romanian authorities said they would continue monitoring the area and cooperate with relevant services to determine the circumstances that led to the drone’s fall on Romanian territory.
