DUI: No Albanian Among Winners of '8 September' State Awards

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) said on Friday that no ethnic Albanian was among this year’s recipients of the "8 September" state awards for sporting achievements and lifetime achievement.

In a statement, the party said Albanian athletes and coaches consistently represent North Macedonia through their results, yet their contribution was not adequately recognised when this year’s honours were announced.

Questions raised about criteria and representation

DUI said the absence of Albanian winners prompts questions about the criteria used to select awardees and about the representation of Albanians across state institutions involved in awarding national honours.

The party asked whether the omission was an isolated oversight or evidence of a wider problem in how achievements by Albanian sportspeople are evaluated.

DUI called on the relevant bodies to explain the selection process and to ensure that criteria are applied transparently so that achievements by athletes and coaches from all communities are fairly considered.
