DUI: No Albanian first deputy prime minister has chaired government sessions
The party says that since June 2024 Izet Medzhiti, Bekim Sali and Arben Fetai have not chaired a single cabinet meeting, raising questions about Albanian influence in the Government of North Macedonia.
The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) said on Monday that none of the party's first deputy prime ministers have ever chaired a government meeting since they assumed the role.
"From June 2024 to today none of the first deputy prime ministers in this government – Izet Medzhiti, Bekim Sali, Arben Fetai – has chaired a single session," DUI said, using that timeline to argue the factual weight of Albanian representatives in the executive branch.
DUI calls the post largely ceremonial
In a written statement the party argued that the title can come with an office, a staff, an official car and protocol, but that those trappings are meaningless if the holder is never entrusted with leadership of meetings. DUI framed the issue not as a dispute over positions gained but over real decision-making power.
"This shows more clearly than any propaganda statement what the real weight of Albanians in this government is," the party wrote, and added that if for more than two years "you have not been entrusted with chairing a single government session", it is legitimate to ask what is "first" about the post.
DUI also raised a related concern about language access: the party said that government meeting minutes have not been published in Albanian for nearly a year and reported that 83 government sessions remain without published minutes in Albanian.
