Duplantis claims fourth straight European pole‑vault title; Hunt and Asher‑Smith make history
The Swedish vaulter cleared 6.15 m for a championships record as Britain swept sprint and relay honours in Birmingham.

The European Athletics Championships in Birmingham closed with another dominant display by Armand Duplantis and landmark achievements for British sprinters Amy Hunt and Dina Asher‑Smith.
Duplantis extended his stranglehold on the pole vault, claiming a fourth consecutive European title after clearing 6.15 metres — a new championships record. Emanuil Karalis took silver with 6.00 m, while Baptiste Thiery earned bronze with 5.85 m.
Amy Hunt emerged as one of the standout figures of the meeting, becoming the first athlete ever to win four gold medals at a single European Athletics Championships. Hunt had already taken the 100m, 200m and the women’s 4x100m relay titles, and added victory in the mixed 4x100m relay to complete her quartet of golds.
British sprint supremacy and individual milestones
The British mixed 4x100m team — Jeremiah Azu, Dina Asher‑Smith, Jarnell Hughes and Amy Hunt — crossed the line in 39.97 seconds, setting a new European record. The result also took Dina Asher‑Smith’s career tally at European Championships to 11 medals, eight of them gold, making her the most decorated athlete in the history of the competition.
On the final medal table Italy topped the standings with 10 golds and 22 medals in total, ahead of Great Britain with nine golds and 19 medals. Germany finished third with 21 medals, including six golds.
