Two U.S. soldiers killed after AH-64 Apache crashes in Texas

An AH-64 Apache military helicopter from the Fort Hood base crashed into a field in Bell County, Texas, and caught fire, killing two U.S. soldiers, local officials said.
Location and immediate aftermath
The crash occurred in Bell County, roughly 100 kilometres north of Austin, the capital of Texas. The downed aircraft ignited a blaze at the scene.
A spokesman for the Bell County sheriff's office, Cliff Colman, confirmed that two soldiers died in the accident. Authorities provided no further details about the victims or the circumstances of the flight in their initial statements.
Military and local emergency personnel responded to the site, where crews worked to control the fire. Officials said they would conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Fort Hood is one of the U.S. Army's major installations and operates AH-64 Apache attack helicopters as part of its aviation units. The base or the Department of Defense has not released additional information about the mission, flight crew identities or a timeline for the inquiry.
