Authorities in Skopje say two brothers — a 19-year-old and his 13-year-old sibling — were involved in a violent street fight in the Čair neighbourhood in which three people were stabbed.
Prosecutors open probe; detention requested for the adult suspect
The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje has launched an investigation against the 19-year-old on suspicion of the criminal offence of "violence" under Article 386 of the Criminal Code. Prosecutors have submitted a proposal for a detention order in light of the seriousness of the case; the decision rests with the judge in the preliminary proceedings.
Prosecutors say both brothers took part in the altercation. Because the younger brother is 13 and below the age of criminal responsibility, he cannot be prosecuted as an adult.
Reports from the prosecution state that one child and one adult sustained serious stab wounds, while another child suffered lighter injuries. Earlier reports indicated that a 13-year-old victim had been stabbed and was in serious condition after the incident.
Investigators and police are working to establish the full sequence of events: how the fight began, the role of each participant, who used the knife and which person inflicted the injuries on the three victims. Initial information suggested the clash involved two groups of youths, and police have taken measures to clarify the circumstances.
