Two foreign nationals arrested in Istria on suspicion of filming naked children

Two foreign nationals were detained in Istria by Croatian police on suspicion of a criminal offence related to sexual exploitation of children for pornographic purposes.

The first incident was reported on August 6 at a tourist accommodation in Istria, where other guests said they discovered a 58-year-old Swiss man secretly filming naked children with a mobile phone. During an attempt to flee he fell and sustained minor injuries. Police later recovered material from him that is suspected to be connected to the offence.

On the same day, staff at another tourist facility reported a 30-year-old Russian man by the pool after they suspected he had been filming naked children. Security personnel detained him until officers arrived, and investigators found material that is now being examined as part of the case.

Both men were taken into custody and handed over to pre-trial detention with criminal charges filed against them.

Police appeal

Croatian police urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious behaviour involving children and warned parents to closely monitor their children at beaches, pools and other tourist locations.
