Two people were killed in Russian missile strikes near Kyiv today while Germany's foreign minister, Johan Vadeful, was visiting the Ukrainian capital.

Air-raid sirens sounded in Kyiv during a veterans' event attended by Vadeful and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as Russia launched ballistic missiles at the nearby city of Boryspil, home to the international airport that has been closed since the start of the war.

Strikes and immediate toll

Ukrainian air force reports say at least three missiles were fired at the town, which lies less than 30 kilometres east of the capital. Regional governor Timur Tkachenko said two people were killed and eight were wounded. He also reported damage to warehouses, vehicles and buildings.

The attack is the latest in a series of Russian strikes across Ukraine in recent days. Yesterday, the president's hometown of Kryvyi Rih was hit; a shopping centre was struck and 16 people were killed.

After arriving by special train at Kyiv's main railway station, Vadeful condemned the strikes, accusing Moscow of "indiscriminate killing of civilians" and of deliberately destroying energy infrastructure.

Authorities continue to assess the damage as emergency crews respond in the affected areas.
