Two killed and one missing as floods hit Catalonia
Heavy rain flooded areas near Barcelona; warnings issued for Girona as storms moved north.

Two people have died and one is missing after heavy storms caused flooding across Catalonia, authorities reported on October 4, 2026.
One victim was killed in Tordera when a wall collapsed at a campsite, and another drowned in a flooded garage in Montmeló del Vallès. Both locations are in the province of Barcelona.
Authorities issued flood warnings for the province of Girona, particularly for areas between Barcelona and the French border. Residents living near the Ridaura and Daró rivers were urged to remain at home and avoid travel unless strictly necessary.
Rescue teams work through the night
Rescue crews carried out interventions overnight at multiple sites, including pulling people from vehicles stranded on flooded roads. In several places around Barcelona more than 200 liters of rain per square meter were recorded.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the situation in Catalonia remains "very complex" and called on citizens to avoid non-essential journeys and to follow the instructions of emergency services.
Flooding has produced fatalities in Spain both last year and earlier this year, underscoring the recurrent risk from intense storms.
