Two dead and hundreds of thousands without power after storm batters the Baltic
Severe storms in the Baltic region left two dead and hundreds of thousands of households without electricity.

Two people have died and electricity supply was widely disrupted across the Baltic region after intense storms and heavy rain battered the area.
Rescue teams recovered the body of a man trapped beneath a fallen tree in the Lithuanian village of Mazionis, while another man was killed in the Latvian city of Jelgava after parts of a building collapsed onto him. Several people were taken to hospital with injuries.
Power cuts and damage
More than 250,000 households in Lithuania were temporarily left without power, the national operator said, and a similar number of homes in neighbouring Latvia also experienced outages. Energy companies reported that many of the failures were caused by trees falling onto transmission lines.
Authorities described widespread damage to local infrastructure and said emergency services responded to multiple reports of fallen trees, blocked roads and property damage across the Baltic Sea region.
"This is definitely the worst storm recorded this summer," said a meteorologist from the Lithuanian meteorological service to the national radio.
