Edin Džeko to stay at Schalke — signs one-year deal
40-year-old forward extends his time at Schalke 04 after a productive loan spell and World Cup participation.

Edin Džeko has agreed a new one-year contract with Schalke 04 as the club prepares to return to the Bundesliga for the upcoming season. The club confirmed the extension following Džeko's loan spell last spring.
Schalke retain experienced striker
The 40-year-old Bosnian signed for one season with the Blues after joining on loan from Fiorentina during the spring, where he scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 11 matches. His performances helped rekindle the team’s attacking options during a crucial period.
Džeko returned to Gelsenkirchen after taking part with the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
“Edin brought something special to Schalke in the first four and a half months at the club. He was a key player and a favorite of the fans, and his personality and qualities meant he always set an example both on the field and off it. We believe that he can help us in the Bundesliga,” said Schalke's sporting director Juri Milder.
For the new Bundesliga campaign Džeko will wear the number 10 shirt for Schalke.
The club announced the signing on August 3, 2026.
