One-and-a-half-year-old mauled by stray dog in Shuto Orizari, spent three days in intensive care
Child bitten in the family yard in Shuto Orizari; family lawyer says the animal is still on the street and a lawsuit against the City of Skopje will follow.
One-and-a-half-year-old child was mauled by a stray dog in the yard of the family house in the Shuto Orizari neighbourhood and spent three days on intensive care, the family’s lawyer, Emran Ismail, says. The lawyer told reporters he published a photograph of the child’s injuries with the family’s permission.
The attack
According to Ismail, the child was sitting in the yard with his mother eating sausages when an aggressive street dog jumped over the fence, entered the yard and attacked the child, biting his face and body. The child was held in intensive care for three days and later discharged home, but he continues to suffer serious injuries.
“This case must not be allowed to pass unnoticed, above all because the child is one and a half years old and this attack by the dog has severely worsened his health condition. While they were sitting in their yard and having lunch, the dog jumped over the fence. The little one was eating sausages. The mother tried to protect the child but the dog jumped directly onto the child and mauled him. The dog tore through the fence, the mother began to chase it and the dog, suddenly seeing the child eating, attacked him. The father came and could not detach the dog from the child’s face,” Ismail said.
Ismail told reporters the dog remains on the street and has not been removed by municipal services. He also said that Kurto Dudush, mayor of Shuto Orizari, did not answer calls or messages asking whether the animal had been taken off the neighbourhood streets.
The lawyer said he plans to file a claim against the City of Skopje, arguing that such incidents are routinely left unresolved in practice. He added that he has repeatedly reported stray animals and appealed on Facebook to citizens to pursue collective legal action, but found little public interest so far.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed removal of the animal or launched an official statement about the incident, and the child remains under medical follow-up at home.
