EES toward Greece not fully suspended: fingerprints and photos taken at Dojran checkpoint
Greek border guards at Dojran carried out fingerprinting and photography as part of EES registration during the evening of July 31, 2026.
Passengers crossing at the Dojran border checkpoint on the evening of July 31, 2026 were asked to get out of their vehicles to be registered in the European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES).
Border officials from Greece used the quieter night hours to carry out biometric checks: taking fingerprints and photographing travellers. The checks were applied to people passing through the crossing even though traffic at the time was light.
How the procedure was carried out
The process at the checkpoint lasted up to 5 minutes per person. Fingerprints were taken from the right hand and travellers were photographed as part of the registration into the EES.
Officials worked on the lanes at times when queues were minimal, which allowed them to briefly stop vehicles so passengers could complete the biometric registration without major delays.
The action at Dojran on July 31, 2026 shows that implementation of EES controls toward Greece has not been entirely suspended; travelers should expect biometric registration when passing the crossing until authorities announce otherwise.
