EHF warns RK Vardar after small incident in match with Nantes
EHF issued a warning after prohibited items were thrown at the Vardar–Nantes match; the club urged fans to support the team respectfully.
Skopje's RK Vardar has received an official warning from the European Handball Federation (EHF) after a small incident at its recent Champions League meeting with Nantes, the club announced on 24 September 2026.
EHF warning after banned items were thrown
Vardar — which has played two rounds so far this Champions League season, including a home match — said the EHF note was issued following the match delegate's report and subsequent review by EHF authorities. The club said the warning arrived at its headquarters today and stressed that any repeat would trigger formal sanctions.
In its public statement RK Vardar highlighted the positive role of the atmosphere that night but underlined the responsibility that comes with competing at the top level. The club translated its message to supporters as follows:
“The atmosphere at the match against Nantes was our true ally on the court and the most beautiful image we sent from Skopje to handball Europe that evening.
However, playing in the handball elite, besides the pleasure, brings responsibility, something we must adhere to for the good of our Vardar.
With every bad act that image we want to build together is undermined and, besides that, the club suffers heavy and rigorous financial penalties. Unfortunately, at the match against Nantes we witnessed such an unfortunate incident, when prohibited items were thrown onto the court by individuals, because of which a warning arrived from the EHF headquarters to the club, which if a similar action is repeated at upcoming matches will mean large fines for the club.
You are the greatest strength of Vardar, your support is what in battles, especially in Skopje, gives us special strength and motivation, so let us cheer the club with dignity and respect for the opponent and everyone present in the arena.”
The club reiterated its appeal to fans to support the team respectfully and warned that sporting passion must not cross into behaviour that risks sanctions and fines which would affect Vardar financially and reputationally.
