Explosions shook central Athens early today after hand grenades were thrown at two separate premises, Greek police said, adding that there were no injuries.
The first incident occurred at 4:25 a.m. local time when a hand grenade was hurled at a health-food shop on Acharnon. A security guard of Syrian origin was present inside the shop at the time.
At 4:55 a.m. local time a second explosive device was thrown at a bar in the Agios Panteleimonas area. The bar is owned by a Syrian.
Police and investigators at the scenes
Police confirmed that no one was hurt in either blast. Officers and forensic teams examined both sites in the aftermath to collect evidence and establish the type of devices used.
Investigators said inquiries are under way to identify the perpetrators and establish a motive. There was no immediate information about arrests.
