ESM begins cost calculations; Government to decide new electricity price in November
ESM must submit an analysis to the Government by mid-November; regulators are reviewing requests from MEPSO, distribution and heating companies.

State power producer ESM has begun calculating and consolidating costs for a new wholesale price of electricity that it will offer for sale to the universal supplier EVN Home. ESM's internal analysis is to be delivered to the Government by mid-November, after which the Government will decide the price that state plants will charge from January. At present ESM sells electricity to EVN Home at 65 euros per megawatt-hour; the level of ESM's new offer will be a key factor for how household bills change after New Year. ([mrt.com.mk](https://mrt.com.mk/node/136474?utm_source=openai))
The Energy Regulatory Commission is simultaneously reviewing the cost submissions sent by other market participants. The transmission system operator MEPSO has asked for an increase in its tariff of nearly double, a move that would push up the regulated transmission component of retail bills if approved. Open items that will affect consumer bills
Distribution company Elektrodistribucija has not specified a concrete correction yet, citing an ongoing tender to secure energy for covering network losses, while the market operator MEMO has so far not requested a tariff correction. Regulators will need to decide how much of the companies' requested costs are justified when they set new transmission and distribution fees. District heating subsidiaries and other heating suppliers have also submitted requests for higher prices, pointing to a sharp rise in gas. European gas benchmarks have climbed above €90 per MWh in October, a pressure that would feed through to heat and power costs if it persists. If a new increase is approved it could be the third this year for some tariffs. ([euenergyprices.eu](https://www.euenergyprices.eu/en/blog/heating-costs-winter-2026?utm_source=openai))
In the coming weeks the Energy Regulatory Commission will consolidate the companies' numbers and publish its proposals; the Government's decision on ESM's offer in November will largely determine the size of any price adjustments that households see from 1 January.
