Europe will switch to winter time on October 25, 2026 — seven countries will not turn clocks back

Most European countries will switch from summer to winter time on October 25, 2026, when clocks are set back one hour. Seven European states — Iceland, Belarus, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan — will not move their clocks this autumn.

How the change will be implemented

The change affects member states of the European Union and other countries in the continent that observe daylight saving time, including North Macedonia. The time shift takes place during the night between Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The issue of permanently abandoning seasonal clock changes remains unresolved at the EU level. The European Commission proposed ending the twice‑yearly clock changes in 2018 and the European Parliament backed the initiative in 2019, but member states have not agreed whether to keep permanent summer time or permanent standard time.

Clocks are also adjusted in the United States, though not everywhere: the majority of the United States will switch to winter time on November 1, 2026, a change that does not apply to Hawaii and most of Arizona.

China does not observe seasonal clock changes; the whole country stays on standard time year‑round. The last time China applied a seasonal change was in 1991.

Residents and businesses across Europe should check local guidance for any services or transport timetables affected by the change in the night of October 24–25, 2026.
