European Commission publishes official daylight‑saving timetable to 2031
Winter time starts on 25 October this year when clocks go back from 03:00 to 02:00; the schedule may change if new EU rules are adopted.
The European Commission has published the official dates for the start and end of summer (daylight‑saving) time through 2031.
According to the schedule, winter time this year will begin on 25 October, when clocks will be turned back from 03:00 to 02:00. The Commission's calendar also notes that summer time in 2027 will begin on 28 March and end on 31 October.
What the timetable means
The timetable was prepared on the basis of the current rules; it does not mean the twice‑yearly clock change is guaranteed to continue until 2031. If the EU adopts new regulations in the meantime, the practice of changing clocks twice a year could be ended earlier.
The issue of scrapping seasonal clock changes has been debated across the EU for years. The European Parliament adopted a draft law in 2019 proposing to end the twice‑yearly change in 2021, but implementation was postponed because member states could not agree on which time—permanent summer or permanent winter—should be retained.
Citizens and businesses should follow further announcements from EU institutions and their national authorities in case the rules are revised before 2031.
