On 10 September 2026 former Argentina forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, who rose to prominence at Napoli and later at Paris Saint-Germain, revealed that he is facing serious mental-health problems and is under continuous medical supervision.
His medical team has diagnosed a significant mental condition that requires treatment and time. Doctors identified the specific disorder as hypomania — a state marked by elevated mood, unusual hyperactivity and reduced self-criticism. People with hypomania can cycle through phases of euphoria, increased talkativeness and psychomotor agitation.
Lavezzi said he decided to seek help primarily to protect his family and to provide stability for his child. "I told myself that I must not and cannot destroy my son's life. I had to go through really complicated and difficult periods, but the treatment is still ongoing," he said.
Medical follow-up and public disclosure
The 41-year-old former international emphasized that he remains under medical supervision and that his condition is not currently good. The treatment plan is ongoing and, according to his statement, will take time to yield results.
During his playing career Lavezzi became well known in Europe for his spells with Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain, and he also represented Argentina at international level. The disclosure of his diagnosis was made public on 10 September 2026.
