Cesc Fàbregas has inserted a secret release clause into his Como contract that applies only to Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea, a development that keeps open a fast track back to three clubs where he has strong ties.

Clause, contract dates and career aim

The former Spain midfielder, who led Como to a first-ever qualification for the Champions League and whose side are now competing at the top of Serie A, is under contract with the Italian club until 2028 and says he feels very comfortable there.

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Fàbregas insisted on a specific buyout clause when negotiating his deal with Como. The fee is described as low — almost symbolic — but it is valid only for three named clubs: Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Fàbregas has told those close to him that his long-term ambition is to take charge at Barcelona. At present Barcelona appear satisfied with Hansi Flick, who has renewed his contract through 2028 — the same year Fàbregas' Como deal expires. Flick has even suggested this might be his final contract, a remark that could create a managerial opening at Barcelona at the right moment. The special clause, however, would allow Fàbregas to move earlier if the opportunity arose.

While he is open to a return to the Premier League, particularly to Arsenal — the club where he broke through — Fàbregas chose not to include Real Madrid among the teams covered by the clause, despite links reported over the summer.

For now, the young coach remains focused on Como's remarkable campaign, aiming to push for domestic success in Serie A and to secure a credible debut for the club in the Champions League.
