Fadil Cana: Another person from Kumanovo dies of West Nile fever
A 66-year-old man with comorbidities died after 28 days in hospital; 66 people have been hospitalized so far and 11 remain in the clinic.
A 66-year-old man from Kumanovo with underlying health conditions is the latest person to die of West Nile fever in the country, authorities said on 21 September 2026.
Fadil Cana, director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, told reporters that the patient had been treated at the clinic for 28 days and had a more severe clinical presentation.
So far, 66 patients with West Nile fever have been hospitalized nationwide. At present 11 patients remain at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, one of them in a serious clinical condition.
Latest admission
"The last admission of a person with West Nile fever to the Infectious Clinic was on September 19, this weekend," the director replied to a reporter's question.
This is the ninth person to succumb to the West Nile virus in the country.
Cana provided the epidemiological update to the media during a briefing at the clinic; health services continue to monitor and treat patients affected by the outbreak.
