Bruno Fernandes' like on Instagram raises questions at Manchester United
The captain's social-media action after the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth sparked fresh questions over Michael Carrick's future.

Manchester United suffered another heavy defeat as Bournemouth ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford on October 26, 2026, but the fallout after the match centred on captain Bruno Fernandes rather than the result alone.
Fernandes drew attention on social media after he liked an Instagram post that carried a message about loyalty and losing interest — a move that English outlets interpreted as a possible indirect critique of manager Michael Carrick.
In the post Fernandes liked the message read: "Never push a loyal person to the point where they stop caring." The Portugal midfielder watched the Bournemouth game from the bench after publicly criticising Carrick's tactics earlier in the week following United's 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League.
Carrick under pressure
Club chiefs are reported to have held urgent talks after the defeat, with Carrick's position now uncertain. He took over the team last summer on a two-year deal but has managed only two wins from his first 12 matches in charge; United sit 16th in the Premier League table.
Despite the poor form, supporters at Old Trafford chanted the manager's name during the game. Fernandes later removed his like from the Instagram post, and there has been no confirmation that the message was aimed directly at Carrick.
