FFM withdraws support for Gianni Infantino’s FIFA candidacy

The Football Federation of North Macedonia (FFM) announced on 19 August 2026 that it will withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino’s candidacy for re-election as FIFA President for the 2027–2031 term.

FFM cites governance, integrity and transparency concerns

In a public statement, the federation said the decision followed a meeting of UEFA member association presidents with the UEFA President and the UEFA Executive Committee.

FFM quoted its official release as follows: "After the meeting of the presidents of UEFA member associations with the President and the UEFA Executive Committee of UEFA, the Football Federation of Macedonia has decided to withdraw its support for the candidacy of Gianni Infantino for re-election as FIFA President for the period 2027–2031.

For the decision, FFM sent an official written notification.

The decision was taken after careful consideration of recent events and the way FIFA is managed, particularly regarding good governance, institutional integrity and transparency in relations with national federations.

"FFM believes that trust, accountability and open dialogue must be the foundation of the governance of world football. The best interests of football and its development must always come first.

As a UEFA member, FFM remains firmly committed to the common principles and values of European football and will continue to stand together with all national federations that advocate for the protection, development and advancement of the game. We remain committed to cooperating with all our international partners with the single aim of protecting and promoting the interests of football."

The federation said it will continue collaboration with international partners while stressing that the welfare and development of the sport must lead its decisions.
