FIFA denies reports that Gianni Infantino received extra payments

FIFA issued a denial on 14 October 2026 after media reports alleged that its president, Gianni Infantino, received additional payments beyond his official compensation.

According to those reports, a document shows Infantino was paid an extra $1.72 million by U.S. companies in 2024 in connection with organizing the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The reported $1.72 million is said to be separate from Infantino's official salary, which is listed at $5.1 million per year.

Backlash over commercial proposals

Infantino has faced criticism from several leading national federations across Europe and North America after presenting a plan that would allow private investors to acquire stakes in FIFA competitions, including the World Cup.

FIFA rejected the accuracy of the published claims and said the allegations were unfounded. The governing body reiterated its position that the president's remuneration is handled according to established procedures.

The matter remains under close attention within the global football community as federations and stakeholders respond to both the payment claims and the commercial proposals linked to tournament ownership.
