Filipche: Basket with rent reaches 90,000 denars
SDSM leader in Struga says living in North Macedonia has become impossible under Hristijan Mickoski's government
Venko Filipche, president of SDSM, said during a visit to Struga that soaring costs and what he described as catastrophic economic management by the government make everyday life in North Macedonia impossible for many citizens.
Filipche presented specific figures and a sharp critique: "The union basket has increased by nearly 1,000 denars in just one month. When you add rent costs for an average apartment or the installment for a housing loan, it reaches close to 90,000 denars. In North Macedonia it has become impossible to live under the criminal government led by Hristijan Mickoski," he said.
According to Filipche, residents he met in Struga are sharing similar complaints—household budgets under pressure, falling living standards and everyday price rises that erode family incomes.
Economic indicators and foreign investment
Filipche pointed to recent investment figures as proof of a worsening economic trend: "In the most recently published quarter of 2026 there are only 18 million euros of foreign investments, compared with 250 million euros during the governments of SDSM." He argued these numbers show the country is sinking economically under current leadership.
He warned that, given what he described as poor governance, the economic and fiscal crisis would deepen in the coming period unless policies change.
Filipche used his Struga appearance to call public attention to the combined pressure of higher prices and housing costs on ordinary families and to place responsibility for the situation on the administration of Hristijan Mickoski.
