FC Sion plans 15,000-seat Serven Koloseum with rollercoaster

FC Sion has taken a formal step toward a radical redesign of its home ground, revealing plans for a futuristic arena dubbed the Serven Koloseum that would combine football with an on-site rollercoaster.

Stadium, tourism and a coaster: the basics

The proposed stadium would hold 15,000 spectators and is a central element of the club's Sion 2030 strategic plan. The total investment is estimated at 450 million Swiss francs — roughly 492 million euros — and the development would replace the historic Turbillon, where FC Sion has played since 1968.

According to the project outline, the venue is inspired by the nearby Alps and designed to operate as a year-round tourist and entertainment complex open 365 days a year. Planners say the rollercoaster will run around the spectator stands and along the outer perimeter of the complex, offering fans and visitors an adrenaline experience with unique views of the pitch and the alpine scenery.

The Serven Koloseum proposal has been submitted to the authorities in the canton of Valais and the municipality of Sion for the first phase of technical assessment and feasibility checks.

Club officials and investors expect a public consultation to be held in mid-2027, a milestone that could clear the way for construction to begin on one of the most unusual stadium projects in European football.

If approved, the scheme would mark a deliberate shift toward mixing sport, tourism and entertainment, and would remove the Turbillon from active use after nearly six decades as Sion's match venue.
