Hansi Flick: Recent losses to PSG and Real won’t change Barcelona’s approach

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick addressed the media on October 30, 2026 ahead of the weekend home match against Alavés, reflecting on the team’s recent back-to-back defeats against PSG in the Champions League and Real Madrid in El Clásico.

Flick opened the press conference with condolences for the victims of a train accident in Toledo: "On behalf of our players, our staff and myself, we express our deepest sympathy to all affected by this tragic train accident in Toledo. We stand with these families, sending them all our positive energy and all our love."

Flick: defeats won’t change our approach

On the sporting fallout, Flick insisted the setbacks do not alter the club’s direction. "This is what I have always said, the road is very long. Nothing is lost, we were defeated by Real Madrid, and nobody likes that, but we must face it and, as I said a little earlier, I think we could have won that match given the chances created. But we must accept the defeat and learn from it. We have injured players out of the squad, Zhil, Chavi Espart, Olmo, Erik Garcia, Kristensen … it is not easy to deal with this and we must find solutions. For tomorrow, things are clear, the three points are the most important," he said.

Flick emphasised the long-term perspective and the need to cope with absences in the squad, calling for practical solutions as Barcelona prepare to return to domestic competition.

The team now shifts full attention to securing three points against Alavés at home as they try to regain momentum after defeats to high-level opponents.
