Floyd Samba scores twice on Manchester City debut in 5–0 Carabao Cup win

Seventeen-year-old Floyd Samba announced himself on the senior stage with a stunning debut for Manchester City, scoring twice in a 5–0 victory over Norwich in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Samba opened his account in the 29th minute with a headed finish and sealed his second in the second half with a strong strike. He was also involved in the build-up to Rajan Sherki’s goal and was named Man of the Match after the performance.

From academy prospect to first-team contributor

Deployed not as a conventional striker but in a false nine role, Samba has spent most of his development in midfield and has been with Manchester City's academy since the age of nine. His role in the match underlined the coaching staff’s willingness to try him in a more advanced position.

Last season Samba scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 24 appearances across six different youth competitions for the club. The teenager also carries a notable family football background: he is the son of former Premier League defender Christopher Samba.

“This is just the beginning, I have a big career ahead of me,” the 17-year-old said after his spectacular debut, reflecting the optimism around his progress.
