Cagliari player Jael Trepi nearly drowns in pool, airlifted to hospital

On 17 August 2026 Cagliari forward Jael Trepi was airlifted to hospital and placed in intensive care after a near-drowning incident at a private villa on Sardinia, club sources said.

Incident after Coppa Italia game

The 20-year-old, who featured for Cagliari following the club’s win over Arezzo in the Coppa Italia, reportedly fell into the deep end of a swimming pool while on holiday. Italian reports say Trepi is not a strong swimmer and lost consciousness under water.

Emergency responders reached the villa quickly and Trepi was transferred by helicopter to the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

The club released a brief statement to supporters: "Jael Trepi is currently admitted to the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari, where he is in intensive care. The club is in constant contact with the hospital and the player's family and is carefully monitoring his condition."

Trepai is a 20-year-old French forward registered with Serie A side Cagliari. The club says it remains in close contact with medical staff and the player’s family; no further medical details have been published.

Team representatives and local authorities continue to follow his condition; the club asked for privacy while treating and monitoring Trepi’s recovery.
