Raul Asensio fined after drunk-driving arrest in the Canary Islands

Real Madrid player Raul Asensio (23) has been fined after being stopped for driving under the influence on the Canary Islands. Police testing showed he had 1.9‰ blood alcohol and he was detained at the wheel of his Porsche.
Under Spanish law the permitted limit is 0.5‰. Asensio received a monetary penalty and a temporary driving ban: he must pay €14,400 and his licence has been suspended for eight months.
The young defender remains a regular in the Real squad. Last season he played 34 matches, scored two goals and provided one assist.
Legal troubles extend beyond the traffic offence
The traffic stop occurred in mid last month, and the sanction has now been applied.
Separately, Asensio is awaiting continuation of a separate criminal trial on child pornography charges scheduled for September 4 and 7. The case relates to incidents three years ago in which he and three other academy players allegedly engaged in sexual activity with at least two underage girls; those acts were reportedly filmed and shared via WhatsApp. Prosecutors are seeking prison terms of four years and seven months for each of the players.
