North Macedonia competes in Group 4 of the main round alongside Spain and Finland. The main round features 36 teams divided into 12 groups of three; each group plays a double round-robin, with home and away matches.
After the first game was played, Spain tops the group with three points following their 3:1 win over Finland on 20 October 2026. Finland currently have no points, while North Macedonia will make their group debut on 10 November.
Qualification from this stage moves through the elite round: the 12 group winners and the four best second-placed teams advance directly to the elite round. The remaining eight runners-up enter a playoff from which four sides will also reach the elite round; from there the route to the World Cup continues via the elite round and final playoffs.
The Finnish match will be staged at Energia Arena in Vantaa, with kick-off set for 18:30 local time on 10 November 2026. North Macedonia's squad will assemble on 6 November for final preparations and travel to Finland.
