Health Insurance Fund paid 623.150.780 denari in August; 414.050.780 went to maternity leave

The Health Insurance Fund (FZO) paid a total of 623.150.780 denari in August 2026 as compensation for temporary incapacity to work, of which 414.050.780 denari were disbursed for maternity leave.

“During the processing of cases we respected chronological order, giving priority to insured persons whose claims have an older date. With this pace the Fund created conditions for sickness benefits, and especially maternity benefits, to be paid on an ongoing and regular basis. Special priority for the payment of maternity benefits was given on the instruction of the Fund’s general director, Zlatko Perinski. Through careful planning and efficient management of funds, in August over 414 million denari were provided solely for maternity benefits, without disrupting the regular settlement of the Fund’s other financial obligations,” the Fund said.

Fund officials described the August outcome as an unusually large monthly realization achieved by intensifying case processing and careful planning of available funds, aimed at ensuring timely and stable payments to insured persons.

Priority, planning and continuity

“Regular payment of sickness benefits, with a special focus on maternity benefits, remains one of the leadership’s priorities, alongside ensuring financial stability and uninterrupted fulfillment of all other obligations toward the insured and the health system. Behind these numbers are insured persons and families for whom timely payment means security in the period when they need it most. Therefore the Fund will continue improving organization and efficiency of its operations, with the clear goal — regular payments, shorter processing times and greater certainty for the insured,” the Fund said.

The Fund emphasized that the processing maintained chronological order and prioritized older requests, while management measures in August ensured sufficient liquidity for large maternity payouts without jeopardizing other obligations.

The payments are intended to provide predictability for beneficiaries and families relying on maternity and sickness allowances during periods of leave and recovery.
