Ghana reappoints Carlos Queiroz as national team coach
The 73-year-old returns less than two months after resigning following Ghana's World Cup exit; his mandate begins in the next international window.
Ghana has reappointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the national football team, returning the Portuguese manager to the role less than two months after he resigned following the Black Stars' exit from the World Cup.
Queiroz first took charge of Ghana in April 2026, shortly before the World Cup, and guided the team to the round of 16 where they were eliminated by Colombia. After that defeat he stepped down in July.
Talks with federation and ministry
Following renewed discussions between the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, both parties reached an agreement to extend Queiroz's cooperation with the national team. The 73-year-old coach will begin his new mandate in the upcoming international window.
His immediate priority will be the qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, a cycle in which Ghana aim to secure a place in the tournament and rebuild after the World Cup disappointment.
The reappointment ends a brief period of uncertainty over the team's leadership but also sets a clear timeline: Queiroz will have the next national-team dates to prepare his squad for qualification fixtures and to assess player options for the road to AFCON 2027.
