Afrim Gashi: October 23 recalls the pursuit of freedom and statehood
The Speaker used the anniversary to call for unity, respect for differences and shared responsibility for the country's future.

Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi marked the anniversary of October 23 by urging civic unity and respect for diversity, saying the date recalls past generations' commitment to freedom, dignity and statehood.
Gashi calls for a society where every citizen feels equal
In his brief statement on the Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle, Gashi said the commemoration is both a moment to honour history and a reminder of the present duty to build a democratic, stable and prosperous society.
“Only united around common interests and with respect for differences can we create a state in which every citizen will feel equal, secure and respected,” Gashi said, calling for collective responsibility in the work ahead.
The speaker's message was issued on the day North Macedonia marks the founding of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMARO) in Thessaloniki in 1893 — the historical event that the anniversary commemorates.
Other public figures also commented on the anniversary. Siljanovska-Davkova said: “We cannot celebrate statehood while forgetting the generations that laid its foundations.”
