Lina Gjorgcheska beats Mia Ristić, advances at WTA 125 Antalya
Gjorgcheska beat seventh seed Mia Ristić 2-0 (61 63) in 86 minutes and will meet Aurora Zantedeschi in the next round.
Lina Gjorgcheska continued her strong run after the US Open qualifying stage by winning her opening match at the WTA 125 tournament in Antalya, a $115,000 event. The Macedonian player defeated seventh seed Mia Ristić of Serbia 2-0 in sets (61 63) in a contest that lasted 86 minutes.
How the match unfolded
Gjorgcheska set the tone early in the first set, breaking serve twice to jump to a 4-0 lead. The set was closed out in the seventh game after a 16-point exchange, when Gjorgcheska converted her fourth set point to take it 6-1.
In the second set Gjorgcheska secured a break in the fourth game to go up 3-1 and then protected that advantage through the remaining games to seal the straight-sets victory.
This was the third meeting between Gjorgcheska and Ristić; the head-to-head now stands 2:1 in favor of the Macedonian.
Gjorgcheska's next opponent will be Italy's Aurora Zantedeschi, who advanced after a 2-0 (62 62) win over Sofia Lancere.
